June M. (Calandrella) DiMattia, of Waltham, died peacefully on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the age of 91 years old.
June was born in Cambridge on September 14,1933, a daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Murphy) Calandrella, and was raised in Arlington alongside her sister, Jane. After graduating from Arlington High School, June attended Hickox Secretarial School in Boston.
She worked for many years as an administrative assistant at Bentley University in Waltham, as well as other local companies. Known for her sense of style and beauty, June taught evening classes at Waltham High School on these subjects. She was also a longtime volunteer at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
At home June kept beautiful and meticulous gardens. She was very creative with a talent for drawing and painting. June enjoyed music and loved to dance. She was known for her fun loving nature, witty sense of humor, sage wisdom/advice and her youthful spirit. June's greatest joy in life was sharing special times with her loving family.
The wife of the late John P. DiMattia she leaves her children, Karen DiMattia of North Reading, Christine Fournier (Robert) of Naples, Florida and Lisa DiMattia of Saint Augustine, Florida; her grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Marshall (Marissa), Jeffrey and Lauren Holm, Brendan Fournier and John “JJ” Pruisken; her great-grandchildren, Maisie and Nathan; many nieces, nephews, cousins and her fiance' and companion of fifteen years, Alfred "Al" Balerna of Dedham.
In addition to her husband and parents, June joins her twin sister, Jane Blagden, in heaven.
Funeral services will be private.
