Haverhill - Mrs. Katherine M. (Lally) Burke, of Haverhill, formerly of Waltham, died Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Penacook Place in Haverhill. She was 84. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire a daughter of the late Martin and Catherine (Reynolds) Lally, Katherine worked for many years as a social worker for the Department of Public Welfare in Waltham and in her later years as a quality control inspector for the same agency at their Boston office. She was a member of the League of Women Voters, a former treasurer for the Waltham College Club, and was a co-owner, with her son, of the Town House Pub in Lawrence. Katherine was the wife of the late Edward J. Burke, Sr., and sister of the late John Lally, Martin Lally, Ann E. Lally, Dorothy McNulty and Sr. M. Brendan Lally. Katherine leaves her son, Edward J. Burke, Jr. and his longtime companion, Nancy Schwartz, of Salisbury; one granddaughter, Kathleen Lagrasso of Braintree and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20) Waltham, followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
