Waltham – Mrs. Katherine E. (Shanahan) Kane, of Waltham, died Thursday, October 1, 2015 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 95 years old.
Katherine was born on July14, 1920 in Wakefield, a daughter of the late Cornelius J. and Margaret M. (Hayes) Shanahan.
She was raised in Belmont and graduated from Belmont High School with the Class of 1938. Katherine married the love of her life, the late Rev. Mr. Walter F. Kane on October 18, 1952, and relocated to Waltham in 1955. For over sixty years, she was very active at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish in Waltham, devoting her time teaching CCD and administering Eucharist to the home bound. In addition to raising her family, she enjoyed baking and gardening.
Katherine leaves her daughters, Patricia A. Kane of Arlington, Margaret F. Wright and her husband, John, of Framingham and Ann M. Kane of Watertown; three grandchildren, Katherine McClorey and her husband, Dan, James Wright and his wife Hannah, and Elizabeth Wright and one great-granddaughter, Cara McClorey.
Family and friends will honor and remember Katherine's life by gathering for calling hours on Sunday, October 4th, from 2 to 5 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Belmont Cemetery.
