Kathleen M. Haines

Belmont – Mrs. Kathleen M. (McCarthy) Haines, of Belmont, died Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 96. She was born on April 11, 1912 in Mallow, County Cork, Ireland, a daughter of the late John and Nora (O'Callaghan) McCarthy. Kathleen was raised and educated in Ireland and immigrated to the United States in 1948, settling in the Belmont community. She was predeceased by her husband, Irvin Haines and her siblings, John and Noreen McCarthy. Kathleen worked for many years in the laundry department at the former Metropolitan State Hospital in Waltham, retiring in 1978. She was a daily communicant of the Church of Saint Luke in Belmont. She is survived by her cousins, Marguerite N.L. Connor of Waltham and Thomas O'Callaghan of Somerville and their families. Family and friends will honor and remember Kathleen's life by gathering in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday morning from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. before leaving for Saint Luke's Church, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown. Memorial donations may be made to the above named church.
