Kathleen R. MacLellan

August 30, 1932 — November 4, 2021

Waltham – Kathleen R. MacLellan, of Waltham, formerly of Belmont, died Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Aberjona Health and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester. She was 89.

Kathleen was born on August 30, 1932 in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, to the late John and Catherine (MacDonald) MacLellan. She was a graduate of Saint Joseph's Convent School in Marbou, Nova Scotia and immigrated to the United States as a young woman. She was a Belmont resident for most of her life before moving to Waltham seven years ago.

Until her retirement she worked for forty-seven years for Honeywell in Burlington. She took great pride in her job and made sure that all the top executives had everything they needed. Nobody was surprised when they named her their #1 Secretary.

She enjoyed traveling to warmer locations as she loved the sun! She began working on her summer tan with daily walks outside in the spring. But what was most important to her was family! She thoroughly enjoyed being the "doting" aunt to her nieces and nephews. She would pack up her car traveling with gifts to all in Toronto, Ontario as well as visiting with family members in Cape Breton. And, of course her nieces and nephews in Boston. She was thought of as a second mother to many.

The trips to the Enchanted Village and shopping for Christmas dresses was a yearly tradition in Boston…as well as the trips to the beach every Sunday in the summer. And, no family event took place without 'Aunty cookies'; baked with lots of butter and love.

At Aberjona Nursing Center where she lived the last four years of her life, she was known as "The Mayor" for always going out of her way to greet new residents and make them feel comfortable. She befriended most and was a competitive Bingo player. Her sense for fashion was never lost… never leaving her room without full make up on and her hair perfectly styled.

She had her feisty moments and the staff took it in stride and accepted when she wished to be alone. This was usually explained with a quiet, "You can go now". She loved the staff as they were her second family. Their devotion and kindness to her will never be forgotten by her family.

Kathleen is reunited with her siblings, the late John, Phonsie, and D. Leonard MacLellan, and Margaret, Marion, and Isabel MacDonald.

She leaves her brother and sisters-in-law, Mary "Maisie" MacLellan of Waltham, Anne MacLellan of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and J.D. MacDonald of Burlington, Ontario and many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Family and friends will honor and remember Kathleen's life by gathering for her Funeral Mass in Saint Bernard's Church, 1523 Washington Street, West Newton, on Wednesday, November 10th at 9 a.m. Committal services will take place in Newton Cemetery Chapel.
