Waltham- Mrs. Kathryn M. (Volz) Alio of Waltham died Friday September 25, 2009 at Waltham Crossings. She was 103. Born in Columbus, Ohio on February 4, 1906, a daughter of the late Charles and Hazel (Hunt) Volz, Kathryn was a sales associate for Nordstrom Department Store for many years. Kathryn was very active as a Baha'i in Dayton Ohio for many years before moving to Anchorage Alaska where she was a resident from 1954-2005. She was on the Board of Directors at the senior center in Anchorage, as well as one of nine persons of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'i community of Alaska and the first female to cast her vote for the election of the very first Universal House of Justice, the international governing body of the Baha'i community. In her spare time, Kathryn enjoyed painting and acting. Kathryn leaves her sister Phyllis H. Hola of Waltham and several nieces and nephews. Kathryn was the sister of the late Lowell, Albert, and Cyril Volz and Marguerite Mehaffey. Family and friends will honor and remember Kathryn's life by gathering at 1 p.m. on Tuesday September 29, 2009 at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham where her funeral service will take place. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery, Waltham.
