Waltham – Mr. Kenneth J. Doyle, Sr., of Waltham, died Friday, July 23, 2021 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He was 81.
Ken was born in Waltham on March 29, 1940, a son of the late James and Mary (Hynes) Doyle, and was raised in Watertown. He was a graduate of Saint Patrick's High School in Watertown.
In July, 1966 he married his sweetheart, Waltham native Marjorie E. Cannistraro, and the couple made Waltham their lifelong home. Until his retirement as the vice-president for sales, Ken worked for forty-four years for Furman Lumber Company in Billerica and later at their Boston office.
He was an accomplished woodworker and had the talent to take on building projects, large or small. Ken was possessed of the skill and patience needed to achieve near perfection when he was finished.
When his sons were young he coached basketball at the Waltham Boys and Girls Club and time spent with his eight grandchildren brought him his greatest joy.
The husband of the late Marjorie E. (Cannistraro) Doyle, he leaves his children, Kenneth J. Doyle, Jr. (Stephanie) of Woburn, Craig M. Doyle (Michelle) of Windham, New Hampshire, Michael J. Doyle (Heather) of Hingham and Matthew J. Doyle of Waltham; his grandchildren, Sydney, Reese, Kaitlyn, Regan, Delaney, Kelsey, Matthew and Nathan Doyle; several nieces and nephews, and his dear friends and neighbors, Tom and Gina Grande.
He was also a brother of the late Eleanor Gatti, Edward Doyle, James Doyle and Mary Frances Tomez.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ken's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, July 27th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday morning when his Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Waltham.
