Hudson, NH - Mr. Kenneth W. Spooner, of Hudson, formerly of Newton and Waltham, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Nashua. He was 66.
Ken was born in South Boston on August 11, 1942 and was a son of the late Walter and Claire (Shellene) Spooner. He was raised in South Boston before moving to Newton and then to Waltham and had lived in Hudson for the past four years. Until his retirement he owned and operated a pest control business in the Boston area and before that worked for several years as a manufacturer's representative for wholesale home goods. Ken served with the Massachusetts Army National Guard and was a member of American Legion Post No. 200 in Hudson. Ken was the vice-president of the Highland Woods Condominium Association in Hudson.
He was also an avid gardener and spent many happy summers with his family at their summer home on Sleepers Island on Lake Winnipesaukee. He enjoyed entertaining, boating, water-skiing and snowmobiling during winter months.
He leaves his wife, Diane C. (Frechette) Kinsman-Spooner; his children, Karen Kluge and her husband, Roy, of Matthews, North Carolina, Susan Spooner-Bishop and her husband, Tom, of Belmont, New Hampshire, Kenneth W. Spooner, Jr. and his wife, Laura, of Pepperell, and Dawn Spooner of Woburn; his step-children, Brian Kinsman of Hopedale and Erin Kinsman of Waltham and his grandchildren, Bryan and Michael Spooner, Christopher Spooner-Bishop and Crystal and Madisyn Kinsman.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ken's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Committal services will follow at Newton Cemetery Chapel.
