The one certain in Kevin Ferguson's life was his absolute love for the three ladies in his life…Lisa, Cara and his four-legged and constant companion Maggie. One of the other realities about Kevin was his love for his native Cambridge from which he never veered too far away.
Kevin D. Ferguson was born on March 9, 1958 in Cambridge a son of the late Donald and Mary (Tisdale) Ferguson. A graduate of Blessed Sacrament High School, he then earned his Bachelor's degree from Northeastern University. He married Watertown native Lisa DeMella on October 22, 1995 in Blessed Sacrament Church. They made Waltham their home since 1995 but as mentioned Kevin often migrated back to Cambridge. He frequented The Cantab Lounge on Mass Ave and Paddy's Lunch on Walden Street. These places were like an old sweater for Kevin...comfortable and familiar and a place to stay connected to so many friends.
Kevin died unexpectedly at home on New Year's Eve, December 31. 2021. He was 63.
He worked in sales and marketing for over twenty-five years at Polaroid and was instrumental in coordinating and setting up their events.
In early years, he enjoyed skiing and softball. His love of music was profound …in particular Motown was a constant throughout his life. Throwing darts or a round of golf with friends was always a welcomed change of pace that garnered lots of laughs, some frustration but in the end just a great day on the links.
It sounds cliché to say he would give the shirt off his back to help others...but he would. He was always willing to lend a hand, offer a ride to a medical appointment, and help family, friends or even a stranger. He was a longtime volunteer at Mount Auburn Hospital…back in his native Cambridge of course. He loved college basketball and annually attended the Big East Conference in New York.
He was a coach for his daughter Cara's softball team for many years and as she was his true pride and joy, he beamed with happiness about her upcoming graduation from Clark University in Worcester.
In addition to his wife of 26 years, Lisa, he leaves his daughter, Cara S. Ferguson of Waltham; his brothers, Lenny Tumenas of Chelmsford, Donald Ferguson of Newbury and the late John and Charles Ferguson; also survived by nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Kevin's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, January 7th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. at on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
Memorials in his name may be made to Mount Auburn Hospital, Development Office, 330 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA 02138 or www.mountauburnhospital.org/giving
