Waltham – Mr. Kevin S. Gallagher, of Waltham, died Monday, January 24, 2022 at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston following a period of declining health. He was 72.
Kevin was born in Boston on October 30, 1949, a son of the late William J. and Margaret M. 'Marge' (Keefe) Gallagher. He was raised in Waltham as was a 1967 graduate of Waltham High School.
In his youth he survived a series of traumatic illnesses including scarlet fever, rheumatic fever and polio that created long periods of isolation and hospitalization. He was administered the Last Rites several times and amazed his doctors each time with his recoveries.
He became a voracious reader, capable of simultaneously reading three books of different genres. That love of reading sustained him during his most recent illness the past three years.
Kevin also inherited the family talent for dancing from country line to ballroom. He was an aficionado of rhythm and blues music and was a lifelong Elvis fan.
In addition to his parents his brother, Joseph W. Gallagher, predeceased him in 1974 and his former wife, Kathleen (Fyfe) Gallagher, in 2001.
Kevin leaves his sons, Kevin S. Gallagher, Jr. and William J. Gallagher, II; his sisters, Marcia J. Lopatka, Shauna M. Kennedy (Doug) and Stacey M. Tully (Shawn); his grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Tales of Kevin are legendary . . . he was loved by many and will be missed much more than he could have imagined. Raise a cup of kindness, gaze into the setting sun and bid Kevin farewell as he sails "Into the Mystic".
Per his wishes, Kevin's funeral services were private and he was buried with his brother Joey.
