Kevin M. Hough, of Waltham, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday April 5th, 2023 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 79.
Kevin was born on September 6, 1943, a son of the late William and Mary (Feeney) Hough. Born and raised in Newton, he graduated from Newton South High School.
After graduating, he served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. When he came home he worked for a time at Raytheon before joining the Newton fire department. He served on the ladder truck at Station Seven on Elliot Street and loved being a firefighter. However, his career was cut short by the serious injuries he sustained in the Starck explosion in 1993. He also worked for many years at the Newton Marriott as a doorman, a job he also loved. He enjoyed interacting with every guest and loved telling stories about meeting the famous celebrities who would stay there over the years.
Kevin was a ball of energy. He was working out, even when he wasn’t working out, you would find him sitting watching TV while also doing some kind of exercise. He ran many road races and even completed the Boston marathon.
In 1992 he met the love of his life Carolyn Callahan, and the two just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on March 28th. Whether it was just relaxing down the cape at their home in West Dennis, having a dance out on the deck, or working out together in their home gym they loved to just spend time with each other. Kevin will be greatly missed by the many people who knew and loved him.
In addition to his loving wife of 25 years Carolyn (Callahan) Hough, of Waltham, he leaves his children, Scott Hough (Sue Ann) of Pensacola, Florida, Beverly Loynd (Mike) of Medfield, and Patrick Hough (Amanda) of Marstons Mills; His Grandchildren Will, Jake, Ryan, Sean, Ashlynn and Brendan; His siblings Peggy (Dick) Daley, Rita (John) Hansberry, Carol Greeley, Elaine Coyle (John), Dorothy Cook, Donna Tramontozzi (Bob) and Eileen Smith (Jim) along with many nieces and nephews whom he adored.
He was also the loving father of the late Christopher Hough, and the brother of the late Mary Lewis, Catherine Flynn, William Hough, and Joan Marrazzo.
Family and friends will honor and remember Kevin’s life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Tuesday, April 11th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30.
