Kevin M. O'Brien

Kevin M. O’Brien, 32, of Clinton, formerly of Waltham and Marlboro, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, December 7, 2024, while surrounded by his family and friends.

Kevin was born in Waltham on June 6, 1992, and spent his youth there, before moving to Marlboro where he graduated from Assabet Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School specializing in culinary arts, before settling in Clinton.

First and foremost, Kevin was the devoted father of his loving daughter Khiana J. O’Brien of Waltham. She was and always will be his Princess. She was not only the light of his life but the inspiration behind his many warm smiles and deep laughter. 

Family and friends often recall his unforgettable sense of humor, which could brighten any room and ease the heaviest of hearts. His laughter filled the room and you couldn’t help but laugh with him. He was “Uncle Kev” to many of his friend’s children. He had a devil-may-care attitude and enjoyed joking around and playing games with them and Khiana on their level all in the name of fun. He was the life of many parties and will be profoundly missed. Over the years, he held various jobs at multiple restaurants or food establishments. Making friends and feeding people were two of his favorite things. He had worked at Mr. Z’s in Clinton for the past 4 years. He was a dependable, valued employee and co-worker. He was a busy guy, but his family was always happy when he had some free time to attend family functions. Each memory will be cherished.

 An avid listener, Kevin lent a compassionate ear, offering support to all who sought his counsel. He believed in the power of friendship and was always ready to succeed in the mission of comfort and understanding. These traits made him an exceptional Deacon at the Clinton Presbyterian Church. Kevin was an avid sports fan with a deep loyalty to his Boston sports teams. His favorite color was green (Celtics green of course). He attended many games, several of them with tickets he won on radio stations. He won so often, that they had to ban his participation occasionally to give someone else a chance to win. This thought will bring a smile to our faces for years to come. Kevin had a big heart and was willing to help when and where he could without questions. He loved to fish, played basketball, enjoyed swimming, and was competitive by nature. He enjoyed music and excelled at cooking which was his passion, the dishes he created will forever be remembered by those lucky enough to enjoy them.

Kevin’s best moments were those spent wrapped in the joyful presence of Khiana—chasing adventures, experiencing life, and creating memories that will forever remain etched in her heart. The bond they shared was extraordinary, a testament to his devotion as a father. In their laughter and shared experiences, he found both purpose and profound happiness.

In addition to his surviving daughter, he leaves his parents Robert A. Grubbs, Jr. and Kathleen (Vincent) Grubbs, and his two sisters Stacy and Amy Grubbs all of Marlboro. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, his former wife and mother to Khiana, Jocelyn Bourgeous and her wife Charlene Bourgeous, as well as many dear friends.

Kevin was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Robert A. Grubbs, Sr. and Florence (Cannistraro) Grubbs, maternal grandparents Richard Eby and Margaret (Cunningham) Radcliffe, several aunts, uncles, and Elaine Cugini a family friend he affectionately called Nana Elaine.

As we say goodbye to a loving father, devoted son, and cherished nephew, cousin, and friend, we do so not in sorrow, but with gratitude for the time we had with him. Gratitude for the laughter, the memories we made, and the love he shared with us.

We love you Kevin, may you rest in peace until we meet again.

We welcome Family and Friends to join us for a memorial service with refreshments following on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. to be held at Clinton Presbyterian Church, 155 Chestnut Street, Clinton, Massachusetts 01510.

Burial will be private.
