Larry Marini always kept active and busy. He was a familiar and consistent face at the Waverly Oaks Athletic Club in Waltham where he worked out religiously and enjoyed many rounds of racquetball with friends.
And…coincidentally it's where he met Denise M. LaBrache and later married on November 8, 1986 in Our Lady's Church in Newton.
Born on December 9, 1954 in Newton he was a son of Italian immigrants Joseph and Anna (DeRubeis) Marini. Raised in 'The Lake' section of Newton also known as Nonantum he was a graduate of Newton North High School with the class of 1972. He and Denise lived a couple of years in Newton after marriage and in Sudbury for over six years before making Waltham their home for the past twenty-seven years.
Larry died at home with his family by his side on Sunday, October 13, 2019 after a struggle with cancer. He was 64.
He worked with the Local #103 Electrical Workers Union for over thirty years before retiring in 2014.
At home he was content working in his yard and tending to his gardens. In the neighborhood he and his much loved dog 'Bridget' took many walks and enjoyed the company of the people they'd encounter along the way. Walks on the beaches of Wells, Maine or in Naples, Florida provided him with sand in his feet, salt air to breathe in and a welcomed escape.
He loved family dinners at home and time chatting with his mother-in-law, Frances, also a Nonantum native about the families and times growing up in 'The Lake'.
In addition to his wife of 32 years, Denise he leaves their children, Nicolas L. Marini (Ryan Gilfillan) of Waltham and Danielle F. Marini (Caleigh King) of Auburn; his siblings, Joseph Marini (Maria) of Milford, New Hampshire and Mary Savilonis (late James) of Enfield, Connecticut and Diana Morganti of Billerica; his mother-in-law, Frances M. (Cotoia) LaBrache (late Rev. Mr. Leo LaBrache); brothers-in-law Paul LaBrache (Janice) and John LaBrache, all of Waltham; nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Larry's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, October 17th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
Memorials in his name may be made to Vernon Cancer Care MGH at Newton- Wellesley Hospital, 2014 Washington Street, Newton, MA 02462.
