Laurie J. Cormier

March 18, 1925 — April 26, 2018

Mr. Laurie J. Cormier, of Chelmsford, formerly of Waltham, died Thursday, April 26, 2018 in Atrium at Drum Hill Care Facility in Chelmsford. He was 93.

He was born March 18, 1925 in Notre Dame, New Brunswick, a son of the late Albert and Caroline (Landry) Cormier. Raised and educated in Notre Dame he married Georgina A. Melanson in July of 1947 and they later immigrated to the United States in 1961, settling in Waltham. They lived most of their lives in Waltham before moving to Chelmsford over a year ago.

Laurie worked for many years as a machinist for Mobil Oil Company in Waltham and previously had worked at the Reece Corporation on Prospect Street.

He looked forward to their annual trips 'home' to New Brunswick. He was a talented carpenter and always had a project on hand at home. In later years he enjoyed card games and scrabble.

He was predeceased by his twelve siblings, Albenie, Abbe, Hervey, Norman and Leandre Cormier, Anna Bernard, Minnie Cormier, Ella Roy, Rachel McPhee, Jean Brideau, Eveline Cormier and Arthur Goguen.

In addition to his wife of 70 years, Georgina, he leaves their children, Reginald A. Cormier and his wife, Rose Mai, of Estero, Florida, Robert H. Cormier and his wife, Cathy, of Scituate, Rhode Island, Francis N. 'Frank' Cormier and his wife, Charlene, of Harvard and Linda DerGarabedian and her husband, Daniel, of Jersey City, New Jersey; his grandchildren, Michelle Gaudet (Geoffery), Robert Cormier (Jill), Matthew, Daniel and Christopher Cormier and Jessica White (Christopher); six great-grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Laurie's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Tuesday, May1st from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery.
