Lawrence F. Brannelly

Waltham – Mr. Lawrence F. Brannelly, of Waltham, died Friday, August 16, 2013 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. He was 93.

Lawrence was born in Waltham on April 27, 1920, a son of Irish immigrants Martin and Mary (Connelly) Brannelly, and had been a lifelong resident. He graduated from Waltham High School in 1939.

Right after the outbreak of World War II he joined the United States Army Air Corps and served for the duration of the war and was discharged just in time to make it home for Christmas in 1945. Married by then to Dorothy A. Main of Newton, the couple settled in Waltham where they built a home and have been residents since.

A union brick layer by trade, Larry worked construction throughout the area and also ran his own business, Brannelly Oil Company. When he put his trowel down he went to work as a custodian for the Waltham School Department, mainly at the Plympton School on Farnsworth Street. Even after retirement he kept busy working during the Christmas season stringing lights on the Waltham Common for the city's Wires Department.

In addition to his wife of sixty-nine years, Dorothy, he leave his children, Edward L. 'Larry' Brannelly and his wife, Jeannine, of Waltham, Doreen A. Graff and her husband, Byron, of Easton, Deborah M. DiTillio and her husband, Ralph, of Burlington, Patricia M. Orifice of Waltham, Karen E. Salvucci of Lowell and Kevin R. Brannelly and his wife, Donna, of Amherst, New Hampshire; his step-brother, Raymond Brannelly of Florida; fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Lawrence was also the brother of the late Mary Savage and Katherine Heaney and step-brother of the late Donald Brannelly.

Family and friends will honor and remember Lawrence's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, August 20th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
