Lawrence P. Sullivan

Waltham - Mr. Lawrence P. Sullivan, of Waltham, died Wednesday, February 9, 2011 in his home. He was 84.

Larry was born in Boston on August 2, 1926, a son of the late James L. and Frances (Lyons) Sullivan. He was a graduate of Boston Technical High School and during World War II he served with the United States Army.

After the war he went to work as an assistant pressman for Tudor Press and then worked for Buck Printing in Boston. Until his retirement Larry was a disability analyst for the Industrial Accident Board for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 555 in Allston and in his spare time he enjoyed photography, music, opera and playing both the guitar and the ukulele.

Larry and his wife, Gertrude E. (Herrmann) Sullivan, were married on September 8, 1951 in Saint Anthony’s Church in Allston and the couple moved to Waltham in May, 1954.

In addition to his wife he leaves his children, Loretta F. DeKay and her husband, Lloyd, of White Salmon, Washington, Linda M. Garrity of West Roxbury, Mark R. Sullivan of Waltham, Anne T. Sullivan and her husband, Don Winans, of Baltimore, Maryland, Mary P. Stern and her husband, Matt, of McMinnville, Oregon, Janet E. Richards and her husband, David, of Mexico, Maine and Carol A. Smith and her husband, Paul A. Smith, of Ipswich; ten grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Larry was also the father-in-law of the late Michael Garrity and brother of the late Mary, Helen, William, James, and Richard Sullivan.

Family and friends will honor and remember Larry’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
