Waltham – Mr. Leonard J. Doucet, of Waltham, died Monday, January 21, 2019, his 86th birthday, in the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln.
Lenny was born in Waltham on January 21, 1933, a son of the late Denis and Marguerite Doucet and had been a lifelong resident. Best known for the past sixty-five years as a local barber, he got his start in high school working at his father's barber shop on Moody Street.
Following his service with the United States Army during the Korean War he went to barber school and after his father's death worked for years with Pete Bourque at Pete's Place on Lexington Street. Most recently he was barbering at Topper's on Newton Street.
Lenny could be counted on to be a good listener and always kept an even keel. His friendly nature and easy smile suited his profession perfectly. He was a longtime member of the Waltham Lions Club where he was an active member of the organization.
He also ushered for years at the 9 o'clock Sunday Mass at Our Lady's Church on Trapelo Road and was a longtime member of the French-American Victory Club in Waltham. In his younger days Lenny was a talented trumpeter and an avid bowler . . . and throughout his life knew his way around a dance floor.
Lenny leaves his wife, Anita M. (Smith) Doucet; his children, Linda Pratt (Timothy) of Waltham and Jill Doucet (Cecil Howell) of Somerville; his grandchildren, Joe and Sophie Pratt; his sisters, Doris Main of Waltham and Marie Lemont of Fitchburg and many nieces, nephews and their families.
He was also the brother of the late Russell Doucet.
Family and friends will honor and remember Lenny's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, January 27th from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 p.m.
