"GrampaGrampa" as he is known by his great-grandchildren, found the most pleasure in life spending time with four generations of family.
Mr. Leonard W. Harvey, of Waltham, died peacefully, Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Epoch of Weston. He was 91.
Leonard was born in Taunton on February 17, 1924, a son of the late Alonzo and Thelma (Fornes) Harvey, and devoted grandson of Ethel Dakin. He was raised in Waltham and graduated from Waltham High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and spent the next several years with the 'Seabee Unit' in the South Pacific during World War II. He studied accounting at Boston University on the GI Bill.
Len and Faye were married at Immanuel Methodist Church in Waltham on September 14, 1946. Throughout their 69 years of marriage, Len and Faye lived by the words in the verses of Genesis 31:49, "Mizpah".
Len and Faye raised their 3 children, Susan, Lee, and Robert as vibrant members of the Waltham Community. Leonard was a very active man. He was a skilled handyman, and had a gift at wood working. Len could always be found making a mess in his workshop. Many of his creations are treasured and shared by the family. Being a Mason was something that was very near and dear to Len. Over the many years he spent as a Mason, he reached the title of 32nd Degree. Fulfilling his civic responsibility was something that was important to him. He was a member of the Waltham Auxiliary Police, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Board of the Directors for the Waltham YMCA, and volunteered his skills as a handyman with the Reagle Players for many years. He worked for many years at, and retired from Zenith Products.
For over 20 years, Len and Faye enjoyed the boating life aboard their boat, aptly named the "MS-PA". In 1996 they relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida. The family changed vacation destination from Cape Cod to the Sunshine State. Many more happy deposits were made to the family's memory bank there. In 2013, Len and Faye returned to Waltham to be near family. Four generations have cherished this time together.
He leaves his wife Faye (Berry) Harvey; his children, Susan Aubert and her husband, Richard of Waltham; Lee Krawczyk and her husband, John of Peabody; Robert Harvey and his wife, Nancy of Battleground, Washington; his grandchildren, Cara Dalton and her husband, Joseph, Courtney Allia and her husband, Antonio, and Robin Harvey; his great grandchildren, Joseph and Alice Dalton, Teresa and Antonio Allia and many nieces and nephews.
