Waltham— Mrs. Lois A. (Ambrose) Romanowski, of Waltham, died on Thursday, May 26, 2022 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 80 years old.
Lois was born at the Teresian Hospital in Waltham on July 20, 1941, a daughter of the late Joseph and Isabel (Reilly) Ambrose. Raised in Watertown, she was a 1959 graduate of Saint Patrick's High School and the same year earned the title "Miss Watertown".
She married John B. Romanowski on June 30, 1963 in Saint Patrick's Church and the pair made Waltham their lifelong home where they would raise their family. They owned and operated Fox Pharmacy in Newton for many years until their retirement. In addition to working alongside her husband at the pharmacy, Lois took wonderful care of her home and children when they were young. She was active in the Ladies Lodge of the Watertown Sons of Italy, was a member of the Twins Club, participated in the annual Relay for Life, and was an avid reader. The couple also made frequent trips to Aruba, Foxwoods, and enjoyed more than 40 happy summers at Hamilton Beach in Wareham.
Of all the things that brought her joy in her life, the thing that made her heart truly sing was being the beloved 'Nana' to her grandchildren.
In addition to her beloved husband of almost 59 years, John, she leaves her children, Diane M. Rizza (Mark) of Topsfield, Joseph M. Romanowski (Renée) of North Falmouth, John M. Romanowski (Kristina) of Tampa, Florida, and Mark B. Romanowski (Karen) of Middleton; her brothers and sisters, Peter Ambrose (Christine) of Brockton, Joanne Edmunds of Amherst, New Hampshire, Phyllis McHatton of San Ramon, California, Patricia York (Jack) of Mashpee, Karen Turner (Jack) of Hudson, New Hampshire, and Joseph Ambrose (Sandra) of West Bridgewater; eleven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Family and friends will honor and remember Lois' life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, June 2nd from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and again on Friday morning at 9 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Patrick's Church, 212 Main Street, Watertown, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
