Loris M. (Beaucage) Murray, of Arlington, died Saturday, March 16th in Massachusetts General Hospital. She was 82.
Loris was born and raised in Waltham. She was an avid socializer and her love of conversation and wit remained with her until her final hours. If you met Loris, even for a brief encounter, you left with a smile on your face, chuckling over some snippet exchanged. She has been described as spunky, feisty, and irreverent.
She graduated from Waltham High in 1959 and worked as a legal secretary before moving on to be an administrative assistant at Clevite Company where she met Dick Murray, her future husband. They married in 1964 and had two daughters, Chris and Linda, whom they raised in Watertown. Although she and Dick divorced many years later, they remained close and spoke almost daily.
Her remarkable tenacity and resilience shone as she forged her way as a single woman working as a customer service person at UPS. She loved milky tea with heaps of sugar, long days at the beach and lobster from Woodman’s in Essex. She proved that you could live a long life eating apple pie for breakfast and eschewing most healthy living mantras.
She loved her “girls” and grandchildren fiercely and adored visiting with them. Above all, she loved the most important thing in life, making a deep connection with others and brightening their day.
Loris leaves her daughters, Christine Vrklan of New York City and Linda C. McDonough (John) of Winchester; and her grandchildren, Luke, Sarah, Jack, Elizabeth, and Anastazija.
She was also the sister of the late Irene Driscoll and Jeanne Savoia.
Family and friends will honor and remember Loris’ life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Thursday, March 21st from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Friday morning at 9 a.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Rosie’s Place, 889 Harrison Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts 02118.
