West Newton - Mrs. Lorraine I. (Galvin) England, of West Newton, died Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Newton after a long illness. She was 80. Lorraine was born in Cambridge on August 20, 1929, a daughter of the late Mortimer and Isabelle L. (Weymouth) Galvin, and was a resident of West Newton since 1966. She worked as an accounting assistant for Itek measurement systems in Newton for many years where she made many lifelong friendships. She was a 1947 graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School for Girls and a graduate of Massachusetts Bay Community College receiving her associates degree in accounting. In her spare time, she enjoyed bird watching, traveling, cooking, art, painting crafts, and attending the opera. Lorraine was the beloved mother of Susan Foley of Lexington, Janet England and her husband, Frank Gerry, of Brighton and John England of Winter Harbor, Maine; a dear sister of Dorothy Shanahan of Watertown and the loving grandmother of Jack and Jennifer Foley. She also leaves her son-in-law, Robert Foley of Burlington and several nieces and nephews. She was also a sister of the late Frederick Galvin. Family and friends will honor and remember Lorraines life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. when her funeral service will be held.
