Lorraine M. (Verme) Livingston

February 10, 1923 — September 13, 2019

Mrs. Lorraine M. (Verme) Livingston, formerly of Summit, NJ, died Friday, September 13, 2019 at Sunrise of Weston. She was 96.

Lorraine was born on February 10, 1923 in Moline, Illinois, daughter of the late Albin and Hulda (Nelson) Verme. Raised in Moline she was a graduate of Moline High School. Lorraine married Lloyd E. Livingston on June 16, 1951 in Salem Lutheran Church and they lived 13 years in Mount Prospect, Illinois before moving to Summit, New Jersey where they were active members in their church and in their community for over 40 years. Lloyd died December 26, 2006. Lorraine moved to Massachusetts in 2009 to be closer to family.

Prior to her marriage Lorraine attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and, like many in her family and community, worked at the world headquarters for Deere & Company. Later she worked as secretary for then Mayor of Moline Hjalmar Oakleaf.

In Mount Prospect while raising her four girls, building strong friendships and maintaining close ties to friends and family in Moline, Lorraine was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. While in Summit she continued raising her daughters, building strong friendships and maintaining ties to Illinois. In addition, she was a faithful and active member of Saint John's Lutheran Church, the P.E.O., the Overlook Hospital Auxiliary and the Fortnightly Club.

Lorraine truly loved playing the piano and instilled a love of music in her girls; someone was almost always practicing a musical instrument. Lorrained enjoyed sharing her wonderful baking and cooking with others, and being with her children, grandchildren and friends. She and her husband Lloyd enjoyed hosting parties, playing bridge and traveling.

In addition to her husband of 55 years she was predeceased by her brothers Howard and Richard Verme.

She leaves her daughters, Ann L. Sewich (Doug) of Richfield, Minnesota, Patricia E. Maxwell (Tom) of Bedford, Susan C. Reid (Anthony) of Fairfax, Virginia and Margaret J. Maehl (Rev. Thomas) of Waltham; her grandchildren, David Sewich, Thomas Maxwell (Kathy), Meredith Szeles (Tom), Timothy Reid, Nicholas Reid, Katherine Maehl, Isaac Maehl; and her great-grandchildren, Thomas and Maggie Maxwell, Logan and Lizzy Szeles.

Family and friends will honor and remember Lorraine's life by gathering on Saturday, September 28, 2019 in The First Lutheran Church, 6 Eddy Street, Waltham where a memorial service will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. The Reverend Christopher S. Wendell will officiate. There are no calling hours. Burial is private.
