Hobe Sound, Fla. – Mrs. Lucia Gloria (Salvato) Giles, of Hobe Sound, formerly of Waltham, died Friday, August 29, 2014 in the Martin Nursing Home in Stuart, Florida. She was 83.
Gloria was born in Waltham on June 29, 1931, a daughter of the late Michaelangelo and Antoinette (Parisi) Salvato. She attended Waltham Public Schools, graduating from Waltham High in 1949. She then furthered her education at Burdett College in Boston.
Prior to her marriage in 1954, Gloria worked as a medical secretary at Middlesex County Hospital in Waltham. She was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady's Church in Waltham where she was a member of the Altar Guild and a CCD teacher. Gloria and her late husband, Retired Waltham Fire Captain John T. "Jack" Giles, who died February 27, 2014 moved to Florida in 1995.
She leaves her children, John T. Giles, Jr. and his wife, Carol Ann, of Natick, Michael P. Giles and his wife, Virginia, of Hampton, Virginia, Kathleen A. Giles and her husband, Robert Nakashian, of Marion and Christina M. Brennan and her husband, Peter III, of Hobe Sound, Florida; her grandchildren, Jason Giles and his wife, Julie, Nicole Velardi and her husband, Andrew, Jennifer, James, Christine and Marybeth Giles, Martha and John 'Jack' Nakashian and Paul and Julie Brennan; her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Gabriella Giles and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Gloria's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, September 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
