Bedford – Mrs. Lucy R. (Richardson) Rand, of Bedford, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Wednesday November 19, 2014 at Carleton Willard Village in Bedford. She was 92.
Lucy was born in Weston on October 8, 1922, a daughter of the late Charles Oliver and Laura (Woodworth) Richardson. She lived in Weston before moving to Bedford eleven years ago.
She attended Meadowbrook School in Weston and Buckingham School in Cambridge. After her graduation from Concord Academy in 1940 she earned a degree at the Nursery Training School of Boston, now a part of Tufts University. Lucy began her teaching career in Philadelphia, where she worked during WW II taking care of children whose mothers were employed in the war effort. Later she taught at the Tenacre School of Wellesley and for a number of years at the Meadowbrook School in Weston.
Along with her husband she was the owner and operator for 18 years of The Hemlocks Camp for Boys in New Hampton, New Hampshire. Lucy was also a lifetime member of the First Parish Church in Weston.
Lucy leaves her husband of sixty-six years, Theodore G. 'Ted' Rand; her children, Amy Rand MacDonald and her husband, Paul, of New Hampton, New Hampshire, Jonathan C. Rand and his wife, Margaret, of Tilton, New Hampshire and Faith B. Rand and her husband, Brian Donahue, of Weston; her grandchildren, Jennifer and Charles Rand, Nicholas MacDonald and Liam and Margaret Donahue; her sisters, Mabel C. Richardson and Laura R. Payson, both of Needham and several nieces and nephews.
She was also a sister of the late Rev. Charles O. Richardson, Jr. and sister-in-law of the late Samuel R. Payson.
Family and friends will honor and remember Lucy's life by gathering at her memorial service at First Parish Church in Weston, 349 Boston Post Road, Weston on Saturday, December 6th at 11 A.M.
