Milford – Mrs. Lydia (Piscia) Mancuso, of Milford, formerly of Waltham, died Monday, October 9, 2017 in Lahey Clinic, Burlington. She was 95.
Lydia was born in Milford on February 11, 1922, a daughter of the late Peter and Rachel (Bassetti) Piscia. She was a 1939 graduate of Milford High School.
On October 15, 1947 she married Waltham native Anthony A. Mancuso in Sacred Heart Church in Milford and the couple settled in Waltham where they would raise their family. Lydia and Tony had sixty-six happy years together before Tony's death on April 11, 2014.
When she first came to Waltham she worked at Waltham's Clevite Company and then became a cashier at the Brandeis University bookstore.
After her children were in school Lydia took a job as a secretary for the city's cemetery department with an office at Mount Feake Cemetery. It was there that she honed her skills as a bookkeeper, record-keeper, personnel manager and comforter-in-chief. Lydia never met a day without a smile and words of comfort or encouragement to the people she worked with and for.
Three years ago she and Tony moved back to her native Milford where she lived at Cornerstone at Milford, across the street from her childhood home. She was able to renew old acquaintances and easily made new friends at her new home.
She leaves her children, Bernadette M. Kobierecki and her husband, Joseph, of Medway and Michael A. Mancuso and his wife, Donna, of Sturbridge; her grandchildren, Melissa A. Conner and her husband, Christopher, Rachel M. Kobierecki and Andrew M. Mancuso; her great-grandchildren, Abigail, Anthony and Nathan Conner and many nieces and nephews.
Lydia was the sister of the late Ambrose Piscia, Josephine Ahern and Peter A. Piscia.
Family and friends will honor and remember Lydia's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, October 12th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
