M. Claire McManus

Ms. M. Claire McManus, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Wayland and Scituate, died Thursday, November 5, 2009 in UMass – Memorial Medical Center, Lake Avenue Campus, in Worcester. She was 87. Claire was born on December 8, 1921 in Brighton's neighborhood of Boston a daughter of the late Thomas F. and Blanche G. (Riley) McManus. She graduated from the Academy of the Assumption in Wellesley and Chandler Secretarial School in Boston. She lived many years in Wayland before moving permanently to her summer residence in Scituate in 1980. She moved to Shrewsbury in 1994. Claire was the secretary and treasurer while managing the day-to-day operations of her family business, the former Wayland Motors Company in Wayland for over 33 years before retiring in 1980. She is predeceased by her siblings, Thomas L. McManus, Albert E. McManus and Blanche L. Dickey. Claire is survived by 7 nieces & nephews, 8 grand nieces and nephews and 4 great-grand nieces and nephews. Family and friends will honor and remember Claire's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Julia's Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
