Born in Boston on September 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Anna (Pohl) Mason. Raised and educated in South Boston, she graduated from the local high school, on Telegraph Hill in Dorchester Heights, in 1940.

After raising her family, she returned to work in service to the town she called home for a half-century, as a secretary at the Watertown Housing Authority, retiring in 1987.

Doris loved celebrating Christmas by hosting at her home on Columbia Street in Watertown, and Labor Day celebrations with her family at their summer cottage on Lake Boone in Stow.

She leaves her children, Judith A. Dodge (John) of Acton, Cynthia J. 'Candi' Aulenbach (Wayne) of Watertown, Patricia J. Koehler (Christopher) of Dennis, Kathryn M. Harrington (Kevin) and David G. Pickering (Amanda), all of Raleigh, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Shawn Aulenbach (Linda), Jeffrey Dodge (Ines), Michael Dodge (Emma), Timothy Harrington (Chelsea), Kimberly Matthews (Sean), Leslie O'Keefe (Michael), Scott Koehler (Cassandra), Bryan Koehler (Emily) and Kerri Mayone (Michael); her great-grandchildren, Connor Aulenbach, Maya, Isabelle, Jonathan, Jacob and Abigail Dodge, Gabriel Harrington, Lucas, Jackson and Aubrie O'Keefe and Joseph Mayone; her brother-in-law, Robert Shields of South Boston and several nieces, nephews and their families.

Doris was also a sister of the late Walter Mason, Madeline Devlin, and Jean Shields.
