Hadley – Mrs. Mabel J. (Hicks) (Glidden) McPhail of Hadley, formerly of Waltham and Watertown, died Thursday May 20, 2004 in the Center for Extended Care in Amherst. She was 79. Born in Watertown, Mrs. McPhail had lived in Waltham before moving to Hadley. Mrs. McPhail was a graduate of Watertown High School where she was a star basketball and field hockey player. She was a quality controller for the Polaroid Corporation in Waltham until her retirement. Mrs. McPhail is the wife of the late James W. McPhail, the daughter of the late James and Mabel (Lind) Hicks, and the sister of the late Russell Hicks. She is survived by her daughter, Sally J. Mahoney and her husband, William G., of Hadley; a son, David E. Glidden and his wife, Judy, of Framingham; her brother, Robert Hicks and his wife, Signe, of Watertown. She was a devoted “Nana” to Coreylee M. Feltovic and her husband, Stephen R., of Hadley, Rebeccalyn Mahoney of Arlington, First Lieutenant Tucker P. Mahoney, U.S.A., and his fiancée, Laurie Mier, of Germany, and Jill N. Glidden of Framingham. Mrs. McPhail is also survived by her great grandson, Jack M. Feltovic and several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 24, in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham, at 11 am. Rev. Robert F. Hoaglander will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Visitation will be on Monday from 10-11 am.
