Waltham – Mrs. Mabel A. (Rogers) Shaughnessy, of Waltham, died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Meadow Green Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 88.
Mabel was born in Watertown on January 13, 1923, a daughter of the late George and Viola (Sears) Rogers, and had lived in Newport, Rhode Island and in Boston before moving to Waltham in 1956. Until her retirement she worked in advertisement for the News Tribune on Pine Street. Her family was the beneficiary of her terrific knitting and crocheting skills.
She is predeceased by her husband Raymond E. Shaughnessy and her siblings, George, Randall, Paul and Muriel Rogers and Catherine Stoddard.
She leaves her daughters, Muriel G. Simeone of Waltham and her late husband, Richard, and Paula R. Doorakian and her husband, George, of Bedford; her grandchildren, Brian Simeone and his wife, Gina, Richard Simeone and his wife, Jodie and Duane Doorakian and his wife, Bonny; her great-grandchildren, Ryan and Emily Simeone and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mabel’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday August 5th from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
