Framingham – Mrs. Madaline J. (Leary) Royds, formerly of Belmont, West Harwich and Waltham, died Saturday, July 25, 2015 in Saint Patrick's Manor in Framingham. She was 92.
Madaline was born July 28, 1922 in South Boston, a daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel (Costello) Leary. She was a graduate of Hyde Park High School and the former Higgins Commerical School. She married Charles E. Royds and they lived in Hyde Park until moving to Belmont where they lived for over 25 years. Her husband died in 1976 and Madaline later moved to West Harwich where she worked as a switchboard operator for the Wychmere Harbor Club. She later worked in the accounting department for the Town of Harwich, retiring in 1988. Madaline moved back to Waltham in 2000 to be closer to family and to St. Patrick Manor in 2010.
Madaline loved her years while she lived on the Cape. She had a love for music and was proud of her Irish heritage. She was a longtime member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 1272 in Belmont and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
In addition to her husband, Charles, she was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Irene B. Royds and her only sibling, Dorothy Lundstedt.
She leaves her sons, James E. Royds and his wife, Barbara of The Villages, Florida, Paul A. Royds and his partner, Dolores Hilton of Peabody and Kevin F. Royds and his wife, Barbara of Sudbury; her grandchildren, Erik Royds and his wife, Marcella, Jeffrey Royds, Rachael Royds, Jeremy Royds and his wife, Leah, Adam Royds and his wife Melinda and Michael Royds; her great-grandchildren, Evan, Gwen, Seamus, Victoria, Talia and Arizona; her niece and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Madaline's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, July 29th from 5 to 8 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 30th in Saint Patrick's Manor Chapel, 863 Central Street, Framingham at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
