Waltham - Ms. Madeline G. Callahan, of Waltham, died Friday, April 6, 2018 in Saint Patrick's Manor in Framingham. She was 90.
Madeline was born September 6,1927 in Waltham the last child of Irish immigrants Thomas J. and Mary (Brannelly) Callahan. A proud and lifelong Waltham resident she was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School. Madeline loved her work as a cook at the Fernald School in Waltham where she worked over 27 years before retiring. In earlier years she worked part-time at Grover Cronin's Department Store.
Madeline was very close to her sister, Rita Callahan and they would often travel together. She had an affinity for costume jewelry and a love for dogs. While not blessed with children of her own she was often the much loved baby-sitter for her nieces and nephews and their families.
She is predeceased by her siblings, Thomas J. Callahan, Margaret Anderson, Ruth Shaw, Mildred Mannix, Rita V. Callahan and Marie A. Rooney;
She leaves many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Madeline's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, April 11th from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
