Waltham - Mr. Manfred Celestin Charles, formerly of Woodside, Queens New York died on Monday, September 9, 2019.He was 90 years old.
He was born April 6, 1929 in Cap-Haitien, Haiti. A son of the late Stephen and Cecile (Riche) Charles, Manfred immigrated to the United States in 1969. He lived most of his life in Woodside, Queens, New York before moving to Waltham with his son in December 2018. His wife and the mother of his 7 children, Brigitte Raymonde Oriol, died on October 8, 1995 and his second wife, Gisela (Purroy), died on November 11, 2018.
He and his late wife, Gisela, were very active in Woodside Community Church where he worked as sexton and caretaker as well in other capacities for over 40 years. It was his second home. Manfred was an avid reader, enjoyed music, singing and playing guitar. He also enjoyed art: painting decoration and most of all he like the nature: blue sky, green trees, the moon and the stars at night. His favorite book was the Bible.
In addition to his wives, he is predeceased by his siblings Etienne and Stephanie Charles.
Manfred leaves his children, Aurore Charles Baptiste (Alix) of Haiti, Emmanuel M Charles (Lissa) of Waltham, Kesler Charles (Cherisane) of Giorgia, Aude Charles Julceus (Molege), Rodney Charles, all of Haiti, Ralph Charles (Clotide) of New Jersey and Ingrid Charles Salnave (Marcel) of Atlanta; 20 grandchildren, of 13 great-grandchildren; siblings Pierre Charles of Atlantla Wilner Charles and Huguette Charles from New York; many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Manfred's life by gathering to visit from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21st in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20) Waltham followed by his funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial is private.
