Waltham – Mrs. Margaret J. (Coffey) Brenner, of Waltham, formerly of North Valley Stream, Long Island, New York, died Monday, January 29, 2018 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 96.
Marge was born in New York City on March 14, 1921, a daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (King) Coffey, and was raised and educated in the Ozone Park neighborhood of Queens. After high school she went to work as a secretary for the Texaco Company in the Chrysler Building in Manhattan.
In September, 1948 Marge married Robert F. Brenner and the couple made their home in Ozone Park Queens before moving to North Valley Stream where they remained lifelong residents and raised their family. She also worked as a secretary for a local credit union for many years.
Marge reserved her greatest love and affection for her family. She had an impressive collection of dolls and enjoyed sewing, cooking great meals for her family, square dancing, bowling, reading, gardening, and solving word search puzzles.
Marge and Bob enjoyed sixty-six happy years until his death on August 15, 2015.
She leaves her children, Carolyn Brenner of Seattle, Washington, Robert Brenner (Florry) of Annandale, New Jersey, Steven Brenner of Alexandria, Indiana and Richard Brenner (Colette Casey-Brenner) of Waltham; her grandchildren, Julia Brenner-Brewer, DJ Brenner (Anna), Michael Brenner (Brett Carly), Joseph Brenner, Benjamin Brenner, Jessica Goodman (Jonathan), Elyse Brenner (James Borum), Sarah-Kate Brenner (Joshua Shearer), Robert Brenner, Grace Brenner, Andrew Brenner and James Brenner and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Neil Brenner and sister of the late Elizabeth "Betty" Elberfeld, Nora Doran and John 'Jack' Coffey.
Family and friends will honor and remember Marge's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, March 9th from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be on Monday, March 12th in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, Long Island.
