Margaret A. Coen

December 13, 1924 — April 28, 2013

Marlborough – Mrs. Margaret A. 'Peg' (McKenna) Coen, of Marlborough, died Sunday, April 28, 2013 in her home. She was 88.

Peg was born in Arlington, a daughter of the late Edward L. and Irene A. (O'Keefe) McKenna, and lived in Concord before moving to Waltham as a child. She was a graduate of Waltham High School.

After her marriage to Watertown native Ed Coen the couple lived in Watertown before moving to Marlborough more than fifty years ago where they settled and raised their family. Peg graduated from the nurse's aide training program at Waltham Hospital where she worked for a time before going to work at Marlborough Hospital.

She will best be remembered as a woman who loved her family and devoted her life to raising them. She loved her children but she lived for her grandchildren. Peg's other passions in life included trips to the Cape and shopping, dutifully patronizing the Christmas Tree Shops from Orleans to Shrewsbury.

Peg's husband, Edward M. Coen, died September 18, 1991.

She leaves her children, Edward M. 'Ned' Coen, Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Hopkinton, M. Beth Cormier and her husband, Dave, Audrey A. Greenlaw and her husband, Hal, and William R. Coen, all of Marlborough; her grandchildren, David 'D.J.' and Marnie Cormier and Coen and Kate Greenlaw; her daughter-in-law, Pam Coen; her sisters, Eleanor V. Kavaleski and Dorothy I. Joyce, both of Waltham; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris McKenna of Berlin and Donald Forster of Hillsboro Beach, Florida and many nieces and nephews.

Peg was also the mother of the late Thomas W. Coen and a sister of the late William J. McKenna, M. Ruth Forster, Martha E. Marinoni and Edward L. McKenna, Jr.

Family and friends will honor and remember Peg's life by gathering for calling hours in the John P. Rowe Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Marlborough, on Thursday, May 2nd, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect Street, Marlborough where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlborough.
