Margaret M. (O'Donoghue) Galvin

September 2, 1931 — March 25, 2020

Waltham—Mrs. Margaret M. (O'Donoghue) Galvin, of Waltham, died at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. She was 88.

Margaret was born in Co. Cork, Ireland on September 2, 1931. She was a daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Sheehan) O'Donoghue. Raised in Killarney, Co. Kerry, she immigrated to the United States with her sister, Eileen, when she was seventeen. The two settled in Worcester before she made a move to Waltham fifty-three years ago.

Margaret had worked as a cook at Larchwood Lodge Nursing Home in Waltham until her retirement. She was very active at the Waltham Senior Center and was a faithful parishioner of Saint Charles Borromeo Church on Hall Street. Margaret loved her heritage, especially Irish dance and music. She could always be counted on to run Irish dances at the Metropolitan Dance Hall in Jamaica Plain on Friday nights for several years where she made many lifelong friends.

In addition to her parents, she is reunited in Heaven with her siblings, Timothy O'Donoghue and Christina O'Sullivan.

She leaves her husband, Timothy C. Galvin; her children, Michael C. Galvin (Beatrice) of Waltham, Patricia G. Underwood (Roger) of Woodstock, Connecticut, Cornelius J. Galvin of San Diego, California, John F. Galvin of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Timothy J. Galvin (Linda) of Waltham, and Kathleen M. Perry (Michael) of Ashburnham; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her siblings, Eileen O'Neill of Jamaica Plain, Mary Reilly of Auburn, Kathleen O'Malley of Worcester, Sister Rose O'Donoghue, R.S.M. and Michael O'Donoghue, both of Killarney, Co. Kerry, Ireland, and many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Margaret's family will honor and remember her life at a private committal service in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.

Calling hours and a Memorial Mass will be held when we can gather again publicly. Those service times, dates and places will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, her family has asked that you share a cup of tea and a piece of Irish bread with someone you love and tell them just how much you love them.
