Mrs. Margaret (Deffely) Gardiner, of Waltham, died Friday, July 21, 2006 in Saint Patricks Manor, Framingham. She was 92. Born in Watertown, a daughter of the late John and Jane (Burke) Deffely, she lived in Waltham for most of her life. Until her retirement, she was a supervisor for many years at Metropolitan State Hospital and at the Walter E. Fernald School in Waltham for many years. Mrs. Gardiner was the wife of the late Sydney F. Gardiner, and the sister of the late Helen MacDonald, Jane ORourke, and John, James and Mary Deffely and Veronica Hunt. She is survived by her children, Janet M. Buckland and her husband, Lawrence, of Stark, New Hampshire, Norma J. Spezzafero and her husband, Alexander, of East Harwich, Joel F. Gardiner and his wife, Christine, of Sudbury, Thomas S. Gardiner and his wife, Martha, of Reading, and Frederick J. Gardiner and his wife, Kristina, of Bridgewater; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Christ Church, 750 Main Street, Waltham. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Waltham. Visitation will be held prior to the service Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham.
