Mrs. Margaret 'Millie' (Oliphant) Gibbons, of Waltham, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Hospice House in Concord, New Hampshire after a lengthy illness. She was 87. Born in St. John's, New Brunswick, Canada, on September 11, 1921, Millie was the daughter of the late John and Julia (French) Oliphant. She and her siblings grew up in Somerville, then for more than 50 years, she had lived in Waltham where she raised her family. Millie attended Fisher Junior College and Burroughs Business College in Boston as well as Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. She was a former president of the Catholic Women's Club and a longtime parishioner of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church in Waltham where she had been a member of the Ladies Sodality. She leaves her son, Richard J. Gibbons, Sr., of Hopkinton, New Hampshire; her grandchildren, Jacqueline Luetzelschwab and Stephanie Brown, both of Concord, New Hampshire, Robert J. Gibbons, III, of Hooksett, New Hampshire, R. J. Gibbons, Jr., of East Wilsall, Montana, and Kellie Gibbons of Hopkinton, New Hampshire; one brother, George Oliphant of Bedford, New Hampshire; two sisters, Dolores Brendle of St. Cloud, Florida and Geraldine Oliphant, of Ocala, Florida; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Gibbons, Sr., mother of the late Robert J. Gibbons, Jr. and sister of the late Douglas and John Oliphant, Jacqueline Nagle and Gertrude McCarthy. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road Waltham at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
