Waltham – Mrs. Margaret H. (Swanson) Hanlon, of Waltham, died at home on Sunday, January 29, 2017. She was 74.
Margaret was born in Waltham on September 27, 1942, a daughter of the late Reno and Margaret (O'Neill) Swanson, and had been a lifelong resident. She was a 1960 graduate of Waltham High School.
She was a graduate of the Waltham Hospital School of Nursing and worked all her life as a licensed practical nurse. Margaret was a nurse for many years for Dr. Chi Si Wong and after that at Pediatric Associates of Wellesley and at Sudbury Pediatrics.
On February 23, 1963 she was united in marriage to her sweetheart, Joseph M. 'Mike' Hanlon, and the pair made Waltham their lifelong home. Margaret had a sweet personality and a nurturing disposition . . . qualities that made her a great nurse, a terrific mother and a beloved "Grammy' to her five grandchildren who she adored.
In addition to her husband of fifty-four years, Mike, she leaves her children, Ann-Marie Brophy and her husband, Mark, and Michael P. Hanlon, all of Waltham; her grandchildren, Patrick, Kelly-Ann, Meghan, Kaitlyn and Thomas Brophy; her brothers, Arthur Swanson of Woburn and Joseph Swanson of Waltham and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was also the sister of the late Reno Swanson.
Family and friends will honor and remember Margaret's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, February 2nd from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
