Waltham – Mrs. Margaret A. (Farquharson) McGovern, of Waltham, died Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 87. Margaret was born in Cambridge on January 10, 1922, a daughter of the late Howard and Margaret (Conroy) Farquharson, and moved to Waltham as a child. She graduated from Saint Mary's High School in Waltham and until her retirement she worked at the Waltham Supermarket on Main Street. Before that she worked at the Clevite Company in Waltham. She had been a member of Saint Mary's Ladies Sodality and when her children were growing up she was a den mother for the Cub Scouts and volunteered as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Waltham's 'Little Nippers' Baseball League. The wife of the late James F. McGovern, Sr., she leaves her children, Margaret A. O'Connor and her husband, Michael, of Waltham, James F. McGovern, Jr. of Reading, Robert S. McGovern and his wife, Maryann, and Michael J. McGovern, all of Waltham; her brothers, Howard 'Sonny' Farquharson of Burlington, Robert Farquharson and his wife, Mary, of Maynard and Richard Farquharson and his wife, Betty, of Waltham; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also a sister of the late Ruth Kitowitz and Geraldine Todaro. Family and friends will honor and remember Margaret's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Donations in Margaret's memory may be made to the Activities Fund at Maristhill, 66 Newton Street, Waltham, MA 02453.
