Waltham – Mrs. Margaret R. (Hanrahan) Saulnier, of Waltham, died peacefully on Friday, August 17, 2018 in Maristhill Nursing Home. She was 96.
Margaret was born in Fall River on April 20, 1922, the daughter of the late Raymond and Ethel (Braine) Hanrahan. Until her retirement she had worked at the Fernald School in Waltham as a supervisor; it was a job she thoroughly enjoyed and was amongst friends.
In her younger years she enjoyed playing tennis and shooting pool, a game she was able to teach her grandchildren. Trips together with her family were cherished and she especially enjoyed travelling to her husband Alphonse's native Nova Scotia for summer excursions. Margaret and Alphonse were outgoing by nature and had belonged to the French-American Victory Club in Waltham where they enjoyed nights out dancing. She loved family parties, a day out shopping in Boston and summer getaways to Cape Cod; spending time with her family was most important to her. She was a simple woman with a captivating smile who worked hard to provide and care for her family.
She was the beloved wife of the late Alphonse Saulnier who died on February 5, 1990 and is survived by her children, Paul D. Saulnier, of Boston, James K. Saulnier of Watertown and Linda Vanaria and her husband, Robert, of Waltham; her grandchildren, Robert Vanaria, Jr., Amanda Vanaria and Kevin Saulnier; her great-grandchildren, Bryan, Addison, Austin and Frankie and her former daughter-in-law Susan Surabian and also leaves many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Harold Braine and Conrad Simcock.
Family and friends will honor and remember Margaret's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, August 21st, from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
