Waltham – Mrs. Margaret E. ‘Peggy’ ‘Mimi’ (Walsh) Sullivan, of Waltham, died Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She was 68.
Peggy was born in Winchester on September 6, 1942, a daughter of the late Frank and Alice (Kerr) Walsh. She was raised in Cambridge before moving with her family to Belmont. She was a graduate of Cardinal Cushing High School in South Boston.
She moved to Waltham from Belmont in 1970 and had worked for many years as the parish secretary at Saint Mary’s Church in Waltham. The job she liked best however was being a wife to her beloved husband, Dan, and the loving and devoted mother to her six children and eleven grandchildren. She was happiest when the entire clan was crowded around the table in her kitchen.
Always a big fan of Christmas, Peggy loved being Santa’s helper and during her recent bout with illness that required extended stays at Mount Auburn Hospital, she made sure that her list was complete for this year’s celebration. At the hospital, the nurses, aides and her doctor, Andrew Modest, made sure that her every need was cared for; a gift for which her family will be forever grateful.
Although Peg could be a bit feisty at times she always had a heart of gold. She was a woman who enjoyed simple things in life – she and Dan would take an annual trip to Aruba and would often take a Saturday day trip to the Maine coast. She loved chocolate almond yogurt at The Beach Plum in North Hampton, New Hampshire, wearing clothes from Coldwater Creek and reading murder mysteries on her Kindle.
For years the family would spend the Martin Luther King holiday weekend at The Anchorage in York, Maine and Peg found great delight in her weekly visits to Life’s Simple Pleasures, her salon, on Main Street in Waltham.
She leaves her husband, Daniel J. Sullivan; her children, Marilee Sullivan, Karen Keilty, both of Waltham, William Sullivan of Moraga, California, Timothy Sullivan, Laura Sullivan, both of Waltham and Erin Pratt of Framingham; her brother, David Walsh of Kentucky; 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Peg was also the mother of the late Kevin C. Sullivan and the sister of the late John Walsh and Joan Fitzpatrick.
Family and friends will honor and remember Peggy’s life by gathering at her funeral service on Tuesday evening, December 28th, at 7 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham.
Memorial donations may be made to Mount Auburn Hospital, Development Office, 330 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA 02138.
