Marie Therese Bazile

May 21, 1933 — December 6, 2017

Arlington - Marie Therese Bazile, of Arlington, died on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston. She was 84 years old.

Born on May 21, 1933 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Marie Therese Bazile was the daughter of the late Melanie Castor and, Franck Cardozo, a great provider and owner of Hotel Montana. Marie was married to Castera Bazile, Haiti's Renaissance Artist, who among many other works, famously painted the Ascension mural on the altar's wall of the Sainte-Trinité Cathedral in Port-au-Prince, as well as other works such as The Baptism of Christ, and Christ Expelling the Money Changers from the Temple. He won two grand prizes including the Caribbean International Competition in 1955. Castera died prematurely at the peak of his career on February 27, 1966 at the age of 42. His artwork been recognized the world over and is represented in the permanent collection of New York City's Museum of Modern Art, as well as art galleries and museums around the world.

On February 21, 1970 she immigrated to the United States as a very young widow. She worked hard and was determined to provide for her young family. Often maintaining two jobs she purchased homes in Dorchester and Arlington. Marie's primary position for over twenty years was at Massachusetts General in Boston from which she retired in 1995. But she considered her most important roles as that of dedicated and supportive mother, grandmother, relative and friend. Marie was most happy and experienced great joy when she was at home cooking and serving many of her delicious native dishes to family and friends. She loved to host festive events during the holidays which everyone truly enjoyed and often recall with great fondness.

Marie always shared her love for the Lord; she constantly studied the Bible and kept a daily vigil of prayer for herself and others. Her deep Christian faith guided and sustained her throughout her life, and provided her with the strength to care for her family and provide them with guidance, comfort, education and responsibility. She constantly reminded others to be patient and live a life of gratitude. She will be remembered as a pillar of strength, as well as for her generous spirit, humble kindness, and her love for God. Marie celebrated life. She was always positive and never complained. Family was so important to her and she always focused on her blessings. All those who had the pleasure to get to know her, respected and admired her. Marie enjoyed spending time with her family on Martha's Vineyard, traveling to Maine, and a highlight of her travels was a group religious trip to Jerusalem. Marie was a quiet, humble and gracious woman who established lifelong friendships. She gave generously to others, never seeking any recognition as she dedicated her life to doing good deeds for others. She most surely will be missed by the countless individuals she touched with loving heart.

In addition to her husband, Castera, she is predeceased by her granddaughter, Brittany Lauren Bazile and siblings, Fabert and Ginette Merisier.

She leaves her children, Marie J. Bazile of Miami, Florida, Castera Bazile of Sudbury, Bibiane Baptiste and her husband, Dominque of Concord, New Hampshire, Jean-Eddy Bazile Sr. of Randolph, Nadine Poole and her husband, Dennis of Concord, New Hampshire, and Pierre 'Yves' Peter of Atlanta, Georgia; her siblings, Emmanuel and Ghislaine Merisier; her grandchildren, Richard, Nancy, Jennifer, Jason , C.J., Brandon, Eddy Jr., Justin, Andrew, Dominique, Brandon, Jon, Dennis, Sydney, Tyler and Brent; her great-grandchildren, Darien, Jaylon, Shawn, Devin, Zoe, Drake, Kai, Jaliyah, Amina, Amrah, Avah and Sage; her daughter-in-law, Edith S.
