Waltham – Mrs. Marie I. (Champagne) Bordenca, of Waltham, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Epoch Senior Health Care in Weston. She was 86.
Marie was born in Watertown on July 11, 1926, a daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Kelly) Champagne, and had lived in Waltham for more than sixty years. After high school she went to nursing school and became a registered nurse. She was working at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton where she met her future husband, well known Waltham obstetrician, Dr. Morris J. Bordenca. After their marriage the couple settled in Waltham and raised their family of nine children.
As the children came along Marie became a full-time homemaker and part-time school nurse for the Waltham public schools. She played host not only to the legion of friends that her children had over the years but to all sorts of animals that found their way to the family's Pleasant Street home. She was a longtime volunteer at the Waltham Hospital Thrift Shop and a member of the Holy Rosary Guild at Sacred Heart Church.
She leaves her children, Maurice 'Mo' Bordenca and his wife, Sandy, of Framingham, Thomas Bordenca and his wife, Kathy, of Waltham, William Bordenca and his wife, Patti, of New Port Richey, Florida, John 'Jack' Bordenca and his wife, Robin, of Billerica, Robert Bordenca and his wife, Denise, of Maynard, Mary Bordenca Jenks, Michael Bordenca and his wife, Lisa, all of Waltham, Stephen Bordenca and his wife, Pam, of Woburn, and David Bordenca of Waltham; her grandchildren, Kimberly, Daniel, Christopher, Matthew, Michael, Jason, Jeffrey, Kelly, Jeremy, Joshua, Kyle, Amanda, Michelle, Gary, Jessica, Scott, Alex, Eric and Nicholas; her brother and sister, Arthur Champagne of Connecticut and Edith Mazza of New Jersey; 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Marie was also a sister of the late Thomas Champagne.
Family and friends will honor and remember Marie's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, February 24th, from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
