Billerica – Mrs. Marie Claire (St. Martin) Allen, of Billerica, formerly of Waltham, died Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Sunrise of Burlington. She was 89.
Claire was born in Cambridge on February 27, 1924, a daughter of the late Wilfrid and Yvonne (Lefevre) St. Martin. She was raised in Cambridge and attended Our Lady of Pity School before graduating from Notre Dame High School in Cambridge. She and her late husband, James Allen, raised their family in Cambridge before moving to Waltham more than forty years ago.
She had been a longtime member of the North Waltham Seniors, Waltham Council on Aging and the Catholic Daughters of America. Prior to her move to Billerica in 2010 she had been a member of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church in Waltham.
Claire leaves her children, James W. Allen and his wife, Therese, of Billerica and Donna M. Fanny and her husband, Paul, of Hookset, New Hampshire; her daughter-in-law, Maryanne Allen of Port Charlotte, Florida; her grandchildren, Brian, Deborah, Michael, Kerri, Colleen, William, Kimberly and Joy Ellen; her sisters, Yvette Sullivan of Zephyr Hills, Florida and Lucille Demers of Merrimack, New Hampshire; 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late William J. Allen and sister of the late Cecile Driscoll.
Family and friends will honor and remember Claire's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, November 24th, from 2 to 6 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
