Framingham – Sr. Marie A. Cormier, R.C.E. died Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Saint Patrick's Manor in Framingham. She was a week shy of her 91st birthday.
Sr. Marie was born in Waltham on January 18, 1925, a daughter of the late Adolphe and Marie (Leger) Cormier, and was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School in Waltham. Her family was long active in Saint Joseph's Parish in Waltham where they were faithful supporters of Saint Pierre's School and in the construction of the new church building.
She later earned her bachelor's degree from Newton College of the Sacred Heart and did her post-graduate work at Boston College and at Emmanuel College in Boston.
Sister Marie entered the Religious of Christian Education community in December, 1945 at Jeanne d'Arc Academy in Milton and professed her final vows in August, 1953 at Marycliff Academy in Winchester.
She taught for most of her life at Jeanne d'Arc and at Marycliff as well as at Saint James School in Arlington. She later did pastoral work for a number of years Saint Theresa's Parish in North Reading, Sacred Heart School in Kingston and at Youville Place in Lexington. Sister Marie retired to Saint Patrick's Manor three years ago.
The sister of the late Edgar, Raymond, Helene, Robert, Paul and Sr. Helene Cormier, R.C.E., Estelle Clark and Jeanne Casavant, she leaves her confrères in the Religious of Christian Education community and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Sister Marie's life by gathering to visit at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, January 12th in the Holy Family Chapel at Saint Patrick's Manor, 863 Central Street, Framingham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
