Waltham – Miss M. Lucille Hanna, of Waltham, died Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Caritas Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton. She was 89. Miss Hanna was born in Waltham on April 29, 1920, a daughter of the late William V. and Mary Ellen (Feeney) Hanna, and had been a lifelong resident. Until her retirement she taught Latin, English and History for the Waltham School Department at North Junior High School and later at Central Junior High School. Miss Hanna graduated from Waltham High School in 1941 and earned her bachelor's degree in English Medieval History from Boston University. She later achieved a masters degree in history from the same university in 1947. She was a member of the Medieval Academy of America and had been a longtime volunteer at Gore Place in Waltham. She was a lifelong parishioner and Eucharistic minister at Saint Charles Borromeo Church in Waltham. The sister of the late Regina C. Hanna she leaves her cousins, Ruth Ann Cowan of Pembroke, Barbara Cirelli of Kingston and Patricia Fossella of Stoughton and many dear friends including Jean and Marilyn Lawless of Waltham. Family and friends will honor and remember Lucille's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
