Waltham - Mrs. Marie T. (Martin) Ryan, of Waltham, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013 in her home. She was 90.
Marie was born in Waltham on May 9, 1923, the daughter of the late Joseph and Albina (Perodeau) Martin. She graduated from St. Mary's High School with the class of 1940 and was a lifelong resident of Waltham. Following high school Marie took courses at a secretarial school in Boston and took a position as administrative assistant at Liberty Mutual. On September 30, 1950 she married Paul J. Ryan in St. Mary's Church and the couple lived in Waltham all their lives. Marie chose to stay at home and dedicate her life to raising her five children.
Her husband of 61 years, Paul, died October 14, 2011. She was also predeceased by her only brother, Joseph P. Martin.
Marie was a communicant of Saint Mary's Church and worked in its St. Vincent de Paul Society.
She loved music and played piano and will always be remembered for playing Für Elise. She would often be heard singing Irish tunes amidst her day to day activities. Marie had the gift of gab and possessed a quick and good sense of humor. She also loved gardening, flowers and animals, especially her dogs. For years, she and Paul would make their annual winter escape to her much loved St. Pete's Beach, Florida. For many years Marie volunteered with Waltham's Council on Aging Meals on Wheels program. She looked forward to the many visits with the various people to which she would deliver these meals.
She leaves her children, Paul T. Ryan and his wife, Carmela, of North Billerica, Richard J. Ryan of Medford, David M. Ryan and his wife, Michelle, of Herndon, Virginia, Barbara A. Ryan, M.D. and her husband, Kevin McGinley of Biddeford, Maine and Daniel E. Ryan and his wife, Loretta, of Tewksbury; 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Marie's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), WALTHAM on Sunday, July 14th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
