Marie A. Smith

Mrs. Marie A. (Jordan) Smith, formerly of Somerville and Winthrop, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Newton-Wellesley Alzheimer's Center in Wellesley. She was 77.

Marie was born and raised in Boston, a daughter of the late James and Ann (Hanlon) Jordan, and had lived most of her life in Somerville and in Winthrop. Until her retirement she worked at the Boston law firm of Riemer and Braunstein.

Her husband, Albert F. 'Smitty' Smith, died in November, 1994.

Marie leaves her children, Donna Marie Smith of Winthrop, Albert 'Buddy' Smith of New Bedford, Marybeth Gioia of Norfolk and Bradley S. Smith and his wife, Maryellen, of Waltham; her grandchildren, EmilyAnn Hanson and her husband, Shaun, Alison Marie Smith, Philip and Bridget Gioia, Hannah and Sarah Smith and several nieces and nephews.

She was also a sister of the late James and Sonny Jordan, Nanci McCarthy and Patricia Caslin.

Family and friends will honor and remember Marie's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, January 12th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday morning in Saint John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop Street, Winthrop where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Winthrop Cemetery.
