Mrs. Marie (Goorigian) Vartanian died recently. She was 93.
She was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to the late Charles and Zabel (Russian) Goorigian. She grew up in Pawtucket RI and lived in Wayland for most of her life before moving to East Longmeadow.
Marie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Boston University and went on to earn a Master’s in Nursing Education from Columbia University.
After a long career in nursing and nursing education, Marie became Vice President of Patient Care at Leonard Morse Hospital/Metrowest Medical Center. After her retirement, she volunteered her time as an integral part of the Armenia Partnership with Boston University’s School of Medicine, developing and implementing medical services in Armenia. Marie will be remembered most for her caring nature, her warmth and her love of her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Sarkis Vartanian. She leaves her daughter Rachel I. Fraser and her husband Andrew, her son Matthew Vartanian and her four grandchildren Kristen and Kayla Fraser, Natasha and Max Vartanian; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jasmine Chobanian and Nectar Lennox.
Marie’s family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the entire staff at East Village Place in East Longmeadow, who were like her second family, as well as the entire Baystate Hospice Staff, especially her Nurse Diane whose care was exceptional beyond words.
Family and friends will honor and remember Marie’s life by gathering for a calling hour on Thursday, June 29th from 11 – 12 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by her funeral service at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
