Mario L. Lituri

August 7, 1948 — November 9, 2018

Waltham – Mr. Mario L. Lituri, of Waltham, died Friday, November 9, 2018 at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton. He was 70.

Mario was born in Waltham on August 7, 1948, a son of the late Mario B. and Constance M. (Casella) Lituri. After graduating from Waltham High School he served with the United States Air Force Reserves. He would tell you that the best part of his life began on July 12, 1969 when he married Lucille M. LeBlanc in Our Lady's Church. The couple made Waltham their lifelong home.

In his early twenties he joined the family locksmith business started at the beginning of the last century by his grandfather, F.C. Lituri, that later became known as Lituri & Son on Crescent Street, followed by a move to Chestnut Street. Mario was a longtime member, past president and board member of the Massachusetts Locksmiths Association.

Mario and his family enjoyed yearly vacations to Cape Breton Island . . . a place where he found great peace, light, joy and refreshment. He was an avid reader, preferring hard cover books, and was old school when it came to newspaper reading. He will long be remembered as a talented cook and having a green thumb . . . there wasn't much that he couldn't grow.

His greatest joy came from being in the company of his family. His wife and three girls were his world . . . at least until the family grew with the addition of his six grandsons. Just days before Mario's death his newest grandson, Nico, joined the family and nothing brought a warmer smile to his face than when the kids were around.

Mario was the quintessential 'quiet man' . . . and was clothed in the words of Saint Paul in his letter to the Colossians: 'heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience'. His personality was warm and genuine . . . he was the guy that made you feel safer just because he was in the room.

In addition to his beloved wife of forty-nine years, Lucille, he leaves his children, Tracy L. McMahon (Kevin) of Waltham, Lela M. Horiuchi (Shin) of Chelmsford and Lisa L. Morrison (Matt) of Woburn; his grandchildren, Declan and Bennett McMahon, Ryo and Nico Horiuchi and Landen and Keegan Morrison; his sisters, Kathy M. Lituri (Steve Bores) of Lincoln and Anita Kindberg (Walter) of Canton and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mario's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, November 15th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
